About Milo Barbell Club
Milo Barbell Club is built on the belief that strength is about more than lifting weights—it’s about building better people, stronger communities, and a legacy worth carrying forward. As life long builders in the world of iron we have come to respect and revere the athletes of the past. This reverence guides future generations to achieve what those in the past have done.
Inspired by the enduring story of Milo of Croton and the rich history of physical culture, we honor the athletes, innovators, and everyday people whose dedication laid the foundation for those who follow. We believe there is wisdom in looking back with respect while moving forward with purpose. Alan Calvert founded Milo Barbell in 1902 and within 30 years made his company the largest producer of barbells in the US. Not only did this allow his customers access to lifting equipment, it allowed a better understanding of what it needs to take to achieve physical success. Although Milo Barbell no longer exists today the barbells, plates, and collars are highly collectible today.
Through articles, podcasts, stories, coffee, apparel, and shared experiences, Milo Barbell Club exists to educate, entertain, and bring people together around a common pursuit of continual improvement. Whether you’re stepping into a gym for the first time or have spent decades under the bar, you’ll find a community that values hard work, humility, perseverance, and helping one another succeed. Success does not always equate to having a gym membership at your local gym. Alan Calvert believed that access to strength equipment needed to be available where the athletes preferred to train. In the 19th and 20th centuries having access to gyms was not as accessible as it is today, so home gyms in basements, barns, garages, driveways and backyards were very common.
We believe progress is strongest when it’s shared. By learning from the past, encouraging one another in the present, and striving to become stronger tomorrow than we are today, we can each carry the legacy a little farther.
Honor the Past. Strengthen the Present. Raise the Bar for the Future.
